Supermyths is a series of childrens books which celebrates Irish mythology in a unique way. Storytelling has always been a huge part of Irish Culture, and like all mythology and folklore, the aim of Irish Mythology is to teach lessons and wisdom through stories. Superhero stories are often based on the god-like powers of the characters in mythology.
Based on this understanding of mythology, Supermyths communicates Irish mythology through a series of stories which have been re-imagined for contemporary children. By highlighting the key characteristics of each myth, Supermyths allows children to learn about and enjoy Irish Mythology in an imaginative and contemporary way.
The objective of Supermyths is to engage modern children in the storytelling history of Irish culture, and to re-imagine Irish Mythology so these stories do not become neglected and forgotten. The essence of each myth remains the same, while becoming more appealing to children in the twenty first century. Through whimsical characters, engaging illustration and simple language, Supermyths attempts to invigorate these stories with new excitement and imagination.
